Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Coach's Corner.
- Accumulator
- A single bet that links two or more individual wagers, all of which must win for the accumulator to pay out.
- Asian Handicap
- A handicap given to a team to level the playing field, eliminating the draw option and offering two possible outcomes.
- Bet Builder
- A feature that lets you combine multiple markets from a single match into one custom bet.
- Cash Out
- A option to settle your bet before the event ends, either locking in a profit or limiting a loss.
- Draw No Bet
- A market where you pick a team to win; if the match ends in a draw, your stake is refunded.
- Edge
- The perceived advantage a bettor believes they have over the bookmaker’s odds on a particular outcome.
- Expected Goals (xG)
- A metric that estimates how many goals a team should have scored based on the quality of its shots.
- Fractional Odds
- A traditional odds format that shows the profit you’ll earn relative to your stake, expressed as a fraction.
- Handicapping
- The process of analyzing teams and matchups to estimate the likely outcome and find value in the odds.
- In-Play Betting
- Placing a wager on a match while it is already in progress, with odds that update as the game unfolds.
- Juice
- The commission or fee that a bookmaker adds to the odds, often seen as a small percentage built into each bet.
- Kelly Criterion
- A formula that tells you the best fraction of your betting money to risk on a bet based on how much advantage you think you have.
- Lay Bet
- A bet that a certain outcome will not happen, often placed on a betting exchange where you act like a bookmaker.
- Margin
- The extra percentage the bookmaker adds to the odds to ensure they make a profit over the long run.
- Moneyline
- A straightforward bet on which team will win a match, with odds expressed as a positive or negative number.
- Odds Boost
- A promotional increase of the odds on a selected market, offered by the sportsbook to attract bets.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals, points, or other stats in a match will be over or under a set line.
- Parlay
- A single bet that combines two or more selections; all must win for the parlay to pay out, increasing potential profit.
- Push
- When a bet results in a tie and the wager is returned, often occurring when the line exactly matches the outcome.
- Responsible Gambling
- Practices and tools designed to help players stay in control of their betting activity and avoid harmful behavior.
- Rollover Requirement
- The number of times you must bet your deposit or bonus funds before you can withdraw any winnings.
- Spread Betting
- A bet on whether a team’s performance will be above or below a set line, where the amount you win or lose is multiplied by how far the result is from the line.
- Stake
- The amount of money you risk on a single bet.
- Unit
- A standard measure used to size your bets, expressed as a portion of the money you have set aside for betting.
- Wagering Requirement
- The condition that you must place a certain total amount of bets before bonus winnings can be cashed out.
